My name is Donnamaree and my husband Craig and I have farmed
in the beautiful Maruia Valley for many years now, raising our two wonderful sons.
A love of horses has always been a major part of my life, right from my
first pony Brenan to Belle, Teddy, Ace and Cazza who my husband and
I own today. We love trekking around the country and doing general farm work with them, they have a major impact on my paintings and often
feature in them.
Before moving to Maruia at the age of 15 my family lived in the picturesque Nelson Lakes district, so my love of the Mountains and
wide open spaces comes from first hand experience.
The experience of life in New Zealand is represented in all of my works.
I am constantly inspired by the beauty of our wonderful country.
I have two distinct styles - a relaxing serious contemporary landscape
and then the more surreal side of life, playing with light and shade using romantic colours with moonlight, sunsets and animals.
I also enjoy experimenting with new techniques and have always loved using pencil and charcoal.
I find painting very rewarding and I never tire of the challenges it represents. I can always visualise what I want a finished painting to
look like before I start and find security in knowing where I’m heading.
It is a true sense of achievement seeing my vision come to life on the easel with the next one already forming in my mind.
This wonderful land we live in deserves to be painted with a true appreciation for it’s beauty.
I put my heart and soul into each and every piece and my only hope, is that this is conveyed to the viewer.
